  • After completing some of the more emotional works of this series, artist Glenn Beck felt drawn to create something that would provide some much-warranted levity and joy. Who could better personify this than beloved comedian Charlie Chaplin? “The Little Tramp” typically played the quintessential misfit—shunned by refined society, perpetually unlucky in love, jack-of-all-trades but master of none. He was also a survivor, forever leaving past sorrows behind and jauntily shuffling on to his next grand adventure. Chaplin’s appeal was universal: audiences loved his cheekiness, his deflation of pomposity, his casual savagery, his unexpected gallantry, and his resilience in the face of adversity. He lived by the motto of mentor Fred Karno: “Keep it wistful, gentleman, keep it wistful.” When the world becomes dark and things seem difficult, we may all remember to persevere and, while doing so, to laugh. To keep things light.

Proceeds of works sold will be donated to MercuryOne, one of Mr. Beck's non-profit organizations that includes a history museum whose library is only surpassed in volume and significance by the Library of Congress and The National Archives. MercuryOne also houses education classrooms, a large first responder team for natural disasters, two anti-human trafficking teams, The Nazerene Fund, which has freed, fed and housed over 100,000 religious minority refugees from the Middle East as well as continues funding for Operation Underground Railroad.
